Independent Living Program

Foster Care to College Program

DSHS Children’s Administration is excited to announce the launch of the new Foster Care to College website

http://www.independence.wa.gov/default.asp

Foster Care to College is an unprecedented and visionary partnership of private and public agencies designed to support adolescents in Washington state foster care to prepare for, pursue, persist in, and succeed in post-secondary education and training programs statewide, regionally, and nationally.

This website provides information for youth between the ages of 13 and 21 to help them successfully transition into adulthood.  We hope mentors, caregivers, social workers, contracted providers, educators, and other helpful adult allies will also find it helpful.

Please Consider Becoming A Mentor:

Our program depends on adults willing to Mentor youth.  Mentoring is a structured and trusting relationship that brings young people together with caring individuals who offer guidance, support and encouragement aimed at developing the competence and character of the youth.
